Sherbert Dip Cockney Rhyming Slang

Sherbert Dip is cockney rhyming slang for sip

Peter Collins says this is used around the City financial district, originated with brokers – who were often to be found having a few sherberts after work (or even during).

We have certainly heard the phrase sherbert used many times for alcoholic drinks, especially lagers or beers.

Submitted by two excellent peeps: Peter Collins and John Simpson.
