Melvyn Bragg is cockney rhyming slang for Shag
Melvyn Bragg is a British broadcaster and writer. He is best known for his work in television and radio, particularly as the host of the long-running BBC Radio 4 program “In Our Time,” where he discusses various topics with expert guests.
He also presented a popular TV show “The South Bank Show” for many years.
Bragg was born on October 6, 1939, in Wigton, Cumberland, England. Apart from his broadcasting career, he is also an accomplished author and novelist. His works cover a range of genres, including fiction, history, and biography.
As a longstanding figure in British culture, its not too surprising that his name would come to be used in cockney rhyming slang at some point!
